Increased Censorship Fees
The most dramatic event on the censorship front since last month has been the issuing of amending regulations to the Cinematograph Films Act 1961, which increase the fees the censors office charge in the course of carrying out their duties. Whereas it used to cost $30 to have a film and its trailer and posters dealt with by the Government servants, it now costs $100. If an appeal is lodged, a further $100 is required, plus, in a case where the Appeal Board views the film, a further fee for the examination and registration of the film of yet another $100.
So a distributor could pay $300 and still not get his film passed for showing in New Zealand. The new scale of charges is concerning the N Z Federation of Film Societies as it appears at present that our parent body will also be subject to these new charges.
- Sequence, September 1976.
