33rd Annual Conference

Page history last edited by David Lindsay 8 months, 3 weeks ago

Dr John Harre, Director, of the Hawkes Bay Community College, officially opened the conference. Dr Harre felt that a great strength of Film Societies is that they go beyond the mere viewing of films, into discussion of thermes, and what is behind them. Referring to the matter of film archives, Dr Harre said that in any field of knowledge, the development of good historical records is essential and basic. All our interests in the present and future have some roots in the past, which must be acknowledged and understood, if we are to progress in a competent and comprehensive maner. He suggested that points crucial to the development of film archives are selection, conservation and retrieval. Selection must be related to use - in the interests of film-makers and in the interests of the public and people with special reares of knowledge.
